Blu-ray player Denon DVD-1800BD: Pricy Entry Level Entertainer
Author: daniel // Category: Blu-RayDenon has recently released three Blu-ray high definition players namely the entry level DVD-1800BD, the transport DVD-2500T and the high end Denon DVD-3800BD. Priced higher than the entry level players of other leading companies in the market, the DVD-1800BD can be purchased for around £550.
The player looks old fashioned. It comes with a convenient SD/SDHC slot with the help of which you can store photos and play music. Features include the composite and component video outputs, audio bitstream output of high definition, deep colour support from the v1.3 specification, etc. In the audio front, the 5.1 or 7.1 channel analogue output is significantly lacking. However, the device features the analogue stereo and coaxial digital output.
The DVD-1800BD from Denon does not support BD live as it comes without the Ethernet LAN port. This feature is in fact missing from all of Denon’s Blu ray devices and makes Blu-ray players like the Panasonic DMP-BD55, for affordable. They are therefore of no use to those who want to chat online or download trailers. A minor solace is provided in the form of the option of accessing content such as the BonusView picture-in-picture commentaries.
With a suitable amplifier, user can enjoy high resolution quality audio output as the device comes with various outputs such as the Dolby Digital Plus, DTS HD Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD.
The Denon comes with excellent video features. It can play the Blu-ray films with an output of 1080/24p. DVDs can be converted to 1080p, 1080i or 720p. Other features include the video equalizer with which the brightness, contrast, color, sharpness, noise reduction, etc can be adjusted. Overall, in spite of lack of certain features, this player provides for a pleasant experience.
