LG has recently come up with the BD300, which exclusively deals with the Blu-ray format, much unlike what was observed when the format war between the Blu-ray and HD DVD was in full swing. During that time LG committed the folly of combining the two formats to produce the disaster called BD100. In a flash forward to current times, the BD300, apart from being a Blu-ray player is modestly priced but still delightfully packed full of features.
The BD300 for the discerning customer comes equipped with full BD Live support, which is a nice feature to have at a budget price. Profile 1.1 BonusView features are there as well and would be really handy in case you are into bonus features.
The design of the unit is another reason why you should feel tempted to buy the player, as featuring a beautiful translucent fascia along with a silver strip running along the top the player is all but a delight to the eye. The LG BD300 display panel is crafted with user convenience in mind and is bright and easy to read. The USB port that is also on-board gives you the discretion to download BD Live content, apart from playing play MP3, WMA and JPEG files from an external storage device.
Most of the major connections are located at the rear panel, and the only important visible omission being the multichannel analogue outputs. The tinge of the omission will be particularly felt by owners of older amps without HDMI inputs. Nevertheless, you can be less assured of getting some smart features like an Ethernet LAN port, an HDMI v1.3 output that supports 1080/24p output and Deep Colour. Then, the inclusion of optical and coaxial digital audio outputs is also great news in case your amp is limited to one or the other.
