A home cinema system cannot be complete without the unwavering services of a quality subwoofer. Then, there are also questions related to its size as well that may come into play in case you are pressed for space. For those of you who are looking for gadgets that are miniature in size but do not compromise in performance, then the Velodyne MicroVee is something that should provide you with a practical solution. The Velodyne incidentally is the smallest subwoofer the company has ever made. With reported dimensions of 22.9 x 22.9 x 24.4cm, the unit makes for a great combination with your system, and, equipped with the latest generation of patented digital amplifier, it produces some stimulating sound. Moreover, the Velodyne subwoofer comes adorned with a triple-driver system as well.

Connectivity of the unit is one of its strong points, and one feature that immediately captures your imagination is the gold-plated line-level phono input feature, meant to take the LFE signal from the subwoofer pre-out on your amp through an RCA cable. You also get to have a second input as well, that is apparently provided to act as a support line in case the single line level input is too weak to trigger the automatic on/off feature. Meanwhile, a set of speaker level inputs/outputs are there to assist the amplifiers, while a minijack input and output feature ensures that you can comprehensively enhance the bass from your iPod dock or other audio devices.

The ultimate selling point of the device is the Dynamic Drive Control System (DDCS), which emphatically enhances the performance of the Velodyne MicroVee subwoofer. In essence it is an active signal based system that ensures linear cone movement, while at the same time controlling the driver’s frequency and distortion characteristics.

The unit has on board one active 6.5in driver and two 6.5in side-firing passive radiators with aluminium cones that apparently improve the performance of the active driver. These features are further supplemented by Velodyne’s patented Energy Recovery System (ERS) Class-D digital amplifier, which supplies 2,000W of dynamic power and 1,000W of continuous RMS power.
