The newly unveiled ‘VPL-HS10 Cineza’ projector from Sony is a widescreen LCD projector with a commendable physical resolution of 1366×768 pixels. A significant feature with projector is that it has both vertical and horizontal keystones adjustments, thereby giving you the choice of placing it at an oblique angle to the screen; but still having the luxury of viewing a rectangular image. The system is compatible to all major colours, progressive component signals, that include 480i, 480p, 540p, 575i, 575p, 720p, and 1080i, and interlaced displays. To add to that, the system also recognises computer signals from VGA via XGA. The comparatively compact and uncharacteristically light nature of the projector, on the other hand, endows it with the quality of mobility and flexibility.
The system deserves credit for producing a high quality black level and an equally impressive contrast performance. The unit’s brightness uniformity is another special feature. It illuminates the screen from side to side with an amazing level of consistency and evenness, not witnessed in cheaper projectors like the InFocus IN1. The HS10 comes equipped with a motorised zoom and focus lens. You are also blessed with a great deal of flexibility in adjusting the size of the image thrown with the help of the 1.3x zoom option. The HS10, which comes with three preset calibrations, also has a number of ports and terminals to support most of the popular formats available in the market. These include one S-video port, one composite video RCA jack, a 3-RCA component port, and a DVI-D port.
