Panasonic recently unveiled the world’s first 3D camcorder called the Panasonic HDC-SDT750. Sony was the first to release a 3D video recorder device, however it was targeted at ‘prosumers’ and they still have a consumer-aimed 3D video recorder in the works. The HDC-SDT750 is a fully functional 3D video camera and records true 3D video which requires no conversion. (more…)

Sony have jumped on board the DSLR camcorder train and released the NEX-VG10E. It’s a big device that has the body of a normal compact camcorder, with a 3-inch LCD screen and hand support, but is able to support interchangeable lenses that vary in sizes much like a DSLR camera. There’s a double-edged microphone and viewfinder jutting out of the top for better audio quality and recording videos in bright sunlight. The camcorder is ideal for professional videographers, but there are also automatic functions for amateurs. (more…)

It is high time that we start looking beyond our parochial perspectives and get rid of our obnoxious habit of disregarding lesser known, or indeed unknown, companies. It is highly common of people to go gaga over the well know brands like Panasonic, Sony or Samsung, but they also need to understand and realise that there are a host of other unknown companies lurking in the fringes. Just because a television is not as well known as, say, the Sony KDL-40W4500, does not mean it is not of the same quality. These companies often offer as good a product as any one else. I am a great advocate of these companies because they offer you a cost-effective solution, and come outfitted with some of the most stable features in the industry. One of these companies is Akai, and its latest model, the Akai 46″ DLP HDTV, is no different and should delight its users through its ability to recreate faithful images. (more…)

Panasonic happens to be one such concerned company determined to bring its best products to discerning customers. Its latest innovation, the DVD-S511 player, has managed to keep the company’s reputation intact and comes equipped a multitude of features. The icing on the cake, however, is the fact that you can get all these and much more at an unbelievably competent price. (more…)

The latest craze that has been observed among the major DVD manufacturers is their sustained battle to cram the maximum amount of features into a deck and charge the least amount of money. The Samsung DVD-HD870 clearly falls under this peculiar category and packs quite a punch for its small size and low price. You cannot and shouldn’t expect the unit to upscale your DVD collection to 1080p, but it nevertheless has enough fire in its belly to makes it a real contender. Then its price also falls amongst the lower echelons of the DVD brigade. The unit’s HDMI output feature is the top dog as it is capable of playing 720p and 1080i pictures to a suitably specified flat screen. Other prominent features included are the Scart output (RGB capable), component video output and S-video, plus optical and electrical digital audio jacks. (more…)

After assessing the growing popularity of Plasma televisions in recent times, Akai has come up with its own novelty plasma, the PD-A50WCHH. In a market scenario where every model gets outdated within a very short period, it is becoming increasingly important for the various manufacturers to come up with something innovative and interesting. The Plasma models, also, are increasingly becoming more and more compact discarding the earlier bulkier types. The model in question, under the given context, has taken care of such predicaments with a great deal of finesse and is all set to make a splash in the volatile TV market. The widescreen PD-A50WCHH TV, which measures 50 inches, has a commendable display resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. With such a fine resolution you can see every minute detail of the picture, as you are offered a truly natural and realistic experience. Special care has been given to factors, like the brightness and the contrast ratio, so as to ensure this unique resolution. It has a peak resolution of 1000 cd/m 2 and the maximum contrast ratio supported is 10000:1. (more…)

The Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi DVD Player should really rank pretty high on your list if you are looking for something that is elite and plays everything, save for HD DVD and Blu-ray discs. It literally plays everything that you throw at it, via the newly installed 5″ consumer disc format. As an upconverting player, it plays DVD-Video discs from its HDMI output in 480i, 480p, 720p, or 1080i, but not 1080p. Only 480i and 480p are available in component. You will also discover that though upconversions of DVDs are sometimes advantageous, in reality it doesn’t increase the source resolution. (more…)

The recently launched Pioneer DV-490V is a fairly attractive unit with its conspicuous appearance and a number of intriguing features. Measuring a tad over 1 inch tall and 8 inches deep- it is smaller than the DVD players launched half a decade ago by quite a distance. All the important controls, including rewind, fast forward, stop, play and the like are located on the front. The one major feature missing in this otherwise versatile gadget is an LED that lets you know when the unit is powered up. Instead the LED feature included within lets you know when the HDMI connector is being used. (more…)

Philips has at last come up with its own high-definition DVD player, the BDP9000, which is compatible with high definition Blu-ray Discs. The company has joined the ranks of other major electronics manufacturers, like Sony, Samsung, and Pioneer who also have there own formidable players like the Pioneer BDP-LX70A or the Sony BDP-S350. The player is commendable enough for producing a resolution over five times the resolution of standard DVD discs on average. The most significant feature of the player though is that it offers you the option of upconverting your DVDs. This means the video quality of your DVDs is elevated to a much higher level equivalent to that of HD quality through the HDMI output. The player, in addition, also offers backward compatibility for DVD movies and CD audio discs. (more…)
