Yamaha BD-S1900: Premium Blu-ray Player with a Premium Price Tag

The Yamaha BD-S1900 is the new Blu-ray disc-player introduced by Yamaha Electronics recently. Both this and another model called BD-S1065 were designed to complement the new and existing AV receivers manufactured by the company. To match the higher end AV receivers of the company, the disc-player is equipped with custom installation features. The model supports BD-Live and Bonus View features which provide secondary video/audio for enhanced commentary and information and Virtual Package feature which is meant for providing existing and future entertainment options via the USB memory. The Yamaha Blu-ray disc-player also offers 1080p/24Hz compatible HDMI and 7.1 multi-channel output with 4×2-channel DACs. (more…)

Samsung BD-P1620: High-end Blu-ray Player with Tons of Features

In a sequel to the BD-HP20U, a Profile 1.0 player released in 2007, Samsung BD-P1620 has been introduced as a full HD Blu-Ray playback. Featuring a HDMI out, the player offers an up scaled 1080 pixels and also features HDMI CEC (Anynet+). A Profile 1.1/BonusView player, it contains the necessary audio and video decoders for picture-in-picture content though it lacks the BD-Live Web functionality one gets while moving up to Profile 2.0. As for the player’s connectivity, the unit covers the basics but lacks some higher-end options. In the video department, the user gets HDMI 1.3, component video and composite video outputs (no S-video). Through the HDMI output, the user can pass Blu-ray signals to compatible display devices. In the audio department, the BD-HP21U Blu-ray player offers HDMI, optical digital audio (no coaxial) and 2-channel analog audio outputs, though it does not have 7.1-channel analogue audio outputs. LG has recently come up with the BD300, which exclusively deals with the Blu-ray format, much unlike what was observed when the format war between the Blu-ray and HD DVD was in full swing. During that time LG committed the folly of combining the two formats to produce the disaster called BD100.
