Panasonic DMR-BS850: Blu-ray Hard Disk Recorder captures HD Content

Panasonic has send a message to its rivals by launching the first ever ‘Blu-ray’ recorder. This player is having built in free satellite tuners also. The Panasonic DMR-BS850’s hard disc is having a 500 GB capacity and also has a Blu-ray burner which is compatible to all the varieties of recordable disc’s media. This will be available in the market of UK from around the next June. The DMR-BS850 is also equipped with a seven-day EPG which is searchable, two ‘HD’ digital tuners and is even compatible with HD telly which displays the HD channels from free satellite’s hatchling HD service. Sigmatek SBR-1000: Affordable Blu-ray player meets High Standards

Sigmatek declared their first Blu-ray product which is a Blu-ray Disc player that is the SBR 1000. The affordable cost of the player makes it one of the cheapest players in the European market by a large margin. The player will support 1080p60 and 1080p24 output through a HDMI v1.3 link. Over Fifty Percent of Western Europe is living without HDTV, less than Ten Percent have Blu-ray

Though HD is the new standard and you will be hard pressed to find a new television that isn’t HD Ready, less than 50% of Western European households have made the switch into high definition, according to a new study by Futuresource Consulting (see graph below). When it comes to Blu-ray, far fewer have made the change, less than 10% to be exact, and this is including PS3 sales in the mix. The UK leads the bunch with the highest percentage of HDTV and Blu-ray ownership, while France, Spain, Germany and Italy trail behind; or far behind in the case of Germany and Italy. (more…)
