In an effort to differentiate it from CCFL-backlit LCD televisions, Samsung’s new “LED TV” features the “Edge LED” technology. The latest addition to its already growing number of first class LED TVs, Samsung UE40B7020’s ‘Edge LED’ technology is quite different from the local-dimming LED backlighting system we have seen on previous models. In “Edge LED” HDTVs, white LEDs are mounted along the edges of the screen so that it illuminates a cleverly arranged array of reflective plates which then steers the light forward and out of the screen.
