Philips ready to rock with the world’s first 21:9 ratio LCD TV

Philips is all set to unveil the world’s first 21:9 ratio LCD TV on January 29, and if company sources are to be believed, despite the no show at the recent Vegas CES, the company is right on track to make the major announcement anytime in the near future. However for some marketing reasons it prefers to keep this information undisclosed for the moment.

Once the TV is launched it will become the first TV Company to introduce a 21:9 ratio screen adding another memorable milestone in the company’s checkered history. Reliable company sources inform that the model will be launched at a special media event in London on January 29, and it is no surprise that expectations are building by the moment with many even hailing it as a concept that will herald in a whole new era of TV that will be markedly different from anything that the world has ever seen.

The ultra widescreen has been dubbed as the Philips Cinema 21:9, and is capable of delivering 2.35:1 movies in their native aspect ratio. The screen in addition will measure 56cm diagonally, and will be bolstered by a three-sided Ambilight Spectra system. Moreover, a generally observed phenomenon with traditional TVs, like the Sony KDL-40W4500, is that more often than not they compromise on the 2.35:1 movie experience, and what you get is a distorted version on the screen, consequently losing many important ingredients like the full scope of the original shot; or by displaying the picture in letterbox format with black bars at the top and bottom. There is no such issue with the Cinema 21:9 though as it gives the viewers an uncompromised and absorbing cinematic viewing experience, which was never the case earlier.
