For aspiring and pro DJs alike, the DJM-2000 is yet another great Pioneer mixer, with a multitouch screen being the big addition. But it doesn’t come cheap.

All the bells and whistles

At $3,000 (£1,950) only the most serious of DJs need apply. The Pioneer DJM-2000, a step up from the popular Pioneer DJM-1000, is designed with on-board sound effects that have their own digital processor so as to not take resources from the device’s core functions. In addition to the stock standard faders, this Pioneer mixer has an on-board frequency mixer to achieve the desired tone the DJ wants, as well as for additional modulation.

Killer feature

All of these Pioneer DJM-2000 features, however, are built around the 5.8-inch multitouch screen. Whether effects or the frequency mixer are selected, faders, functionality and manipulation appear on the display. In this regard, though still limited in being one of Pioneer’s earliest attempts at multitouch mixing, the screen looks set to replace a lot of the functions that have been exclusive to digital audio workstations in the past.

Integration

Pioneer has also been very deliberate about promoting inter-product compatibility, just as they did with the Pioneer DJM-1000, with the company saying the Pioneer DJM-2000 complements the CDJ-2000, the pro DJ CD players released last year to much acclaim, perfectly.

And, regarding versatility, while the company has always positioned their Pioneer mixer decks towards DJs, they’ve historically been good additions to the home studio as well, and it is likely the DJM-2000 will continue this trend. Whether the multitouch screen is enough of an addition for Pioneer DJM-1000 owners to upgrade or for newcomers to swallow that price tag, from the little that has been seen, this pro mixer is a fantastic piece of kit in a lineup that has Pioneer already established as leaders in audio technology.

The Pioneer DJ-2000 will hit retailers this June for £1950.
