The ZigBee Alliance is an association of several companies including Royal Philips, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony electronics companies to produce a ZigBee based “remote control standard”. ZigBee being a popular wireless standard is a much liked brand to help control home energy monitoring with the consortium of the biggest electronic companies. The Alliance is going to produce a new specific “radio frequency based remote control” which will replace the traditional infrared remotes. This production will mean that all your electronics, Television set, set up box along with the entire home theatre unit and RF4CE group will be functioning through the ZigBee based standard remote.

Infrared Remotes, like the Logitech Harmony One, function only when it is focused toward the appliance or tool that needs to be operated unlike the new ZigBee which does not require being present in sight of the object that has to be operated.

It has been known that Sony has earlier tried to add wireless remotes to their device that will bring home entertainment systems and televisions to be a part of utility demand response system. This system helps turn off devices when in the risk and threat of a blackout. The companies that have been in alliance with ZigBee claim that the “in-home energy control” will put a cease to the conflict and war in which wireless company will gain victory in the “home energy management field”. The CEO of Tendril Networks, Adrian Tuck said that ZigBee is going to rule for “low power standard” in any home.
